Phil and Daniel Rosenthal

$15 - BYOB - Bistro Style Seating

Father and son, Phil and Daniel Rosenthal, collaborate in an exciting new duo, blending sounds of contemporary folk, bluegrass, jazz and rock. Featuring Phil on vocals, mandolin and banjo, Daniel on trumpet, bass and vocals, they will be debuting songs from their upcoming American Melody release, Sunlight on the Garden, in concerts this summer.

Phil Rosenthal is a seasoned folk and bluegrass veteran, having served as lead singer and guitarist in the Grammy-nominated, world acclaimed bluegrass band, the Seldom Scene at the height of the group’ s popularity. His songs have been recorded by music legends such as Johnny Cash, Bill Monroe, and Nick Cave to name a few. In recent years he has released a series of award-winning folk and bluegrass albums for children on his own label, American Melody.

Daniel Rosenthal is a rising star in the field of jazz trumpet. He is a member of the Grammy-nominated 10-piece jazz ensemble, the Either/Orchestra, with whom he frequently tours throughout North America, Europe and, recently, Africa. He has also recorded and shared the stage with Ethiopian music legends Mulatu Atstatke and Mahmoud Ahmed. He released his debut cd, Lines, in September ’11, which has received rave reviews from jazz critics world wide. He has recently been the subject of feature articles in DownBeat magazine, the Boston Phoenix, the Hartford Courant and the New Haven Register.

Phil and Daniel Rosenthal's music centers around new songs with music by the conservatory-trained Daniel, and words by the lyrically gifted Phil. The songs weave together elements of folk, bluegrass, jazz, and rock in a seamless blend that is both completely original and enjoyable for all generations of listeners. Phil’s rich baritone voice blends wonderfully with Daniel’s tenor blend seamlessly, creating lush vocal harmonies. On traditional and original instrumentals, the trumpeter’s pure and relaxed tone blends with Phil’s rhythmic banjo playing to create a unique metal-on-metal sound that will energize any audience.

Introducing the Organic Homegrown
Original Sounds of Folk-a-Billy Rock
With The Meadows Brothers

The Meadows Brothers invite you to get to know the very unique sound of what this Duo calls Folk-a-Billy Rock.

mb

The Brothers are:
Ian Meadows on Banjo, acoustic guitar, and vocals the oldest of the two. His unique songwriting style has its roots in old southern music from the likes of Bill Monroe, Townes Van Zandt, Woody Guthrie, and The Stanley Bros. Ian started playing guitar at the early age of 7 and is a lifelong lover of Music. He is the cofounder of the band sayWHAT? And loves the path that music is leading him down today.
Dustin Meadows is the groups harmonica and guitar player in the band . Starting his musical endeavors in the footsteps of his older brother , he was the drummer for sayWHAT? That sense of rhythm is evident in his strong rhythmic style of guitar playing. The smooth and intimate harmonies that come from siblings singing together is a southern style sound that produces pleasure and contentment as their voices blend with perfection, both as they sing old public domain songs and their own folk-a-billy originals.
This duo promises to bring a fun time full of memories past and newly made to their audience as they play old southern public domain songs and the totally unique all original Folk-a-billy songs that they have written. This group loves what they do and were born to do the music that you will love hearing over and over again as they sing their way into your heart.

Los Angeles–based singer/songwriter Eric Kufs is not the typical artist in a generation of independent recording artists concentrated on home recording techniques. He is first and foremost a live performer out of necessity. For the better part of the last seven years he has supported himself by busking in Southern California and across the world, as well as performing in clubs. One part crooner, one part protest singer, Kufs makes even the most unlikely pedestrian stop to listen, combining the lyrical poignancy of a Will Oldham with the dynamic voice of a Van Morrison and the passion of a Bruce Springsteen.
In 2005, he released an album of original songs recorded on the streets of Santa Monica. As the main songwriter for indie folk band Common Rotation, Kufs has released six full-length records and written nearly a thousand songs. With the group, he has recorded with the likes of They Might Be Giants and with his own songwriting hero and mentor, renowned singer/songwriter Dan Bern. But on his soon-to-be-released solo EP, he trades in the ironic folk element of his work with the band for a more sincere, soulful 70s pop sound.

Whatever the particular sonic backdrop, it is always best to experience him live. Whether out on the street corner or beneath the stage lights, his distinct voice can lull you with a soft tremble one moment and in the next, rise to stab you with a pointed lyric. In his own insightful songs or in any of his unique interpretations of songs from other artists, Kufs reaches out to his audience in the tradition of the many great troubadours. Armed with just his guitar and his voice he brings heart to the heady.

"Four siblings bring harmony to the forefront in Strings Attached, an acoustic band with a layered sound that spans folk, rock, pop, country, classical, instrumentals and originals. Up from Florida for just a few weeks along the Connecticut coast, the group will surprise you with the sheer fact that all four brothers and sisters in one family can sing like this individually and collectively at ages 21 and younger. They back their harmonies with the stringed instruments they play – guitar, viola, electric violin – plus an occasional piano and harmonica for fun. Come enjoy a unique performance by a truly tight-knit band!"
