The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, CT invited me to paint outdoors on their grounds during the September 26th Gala Fundraiser. The 12 x 16 inch painting will be one of the evenings live auction items. All proceeds will go to the museum. Because of the approaching nor'easter wind and rain storm predicted for this weekend I woke up on Tuesday morning wondering how I would set up in the rain and wind to work on the painting. I happened to see an Old Saybrook, CT Historical Society facebook post about the famous Brockway boats that were built Earle Brockway in the late 1900s. I recalled as a child growing up in Old Lyme that my friend Bob Etherington had a red Brockway Skiff docked on the Leiutenant River up stream from the Florence Griswold house. We would take it all the way down to Griswold Point on the Long Island Sound through the Great Island marsh land.
It was decided that I should do the painting ahead of time while the weather was a bit more stable. The forcast looked good for that afternoon so I took advantage of the moment.
The white house in the center of the background is near the Etherington homestead of the late 1900s.
